MAP overrideSPRINGFIELD – On Wednesday, State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) and his colleagues in the Senate voted to override the governor’s veto of legislation that would fund the states MAP grants. The governor vetoed the proposal on February 19.

“We committed to funding MAP grants this year, and today’s vote backs up that commitment,” Manar said. “The governor has made a habit of promising one thing when he’s visiting towns across Illinois, and then returing to Springfield with totally different intentions. His veto of MAP funding is a prime example of that.”

Page TrentSPRINGFIELD- State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) welcomed Trent Pearcy to the Illinois Senate on Wednesday.

Trent is a Junior at Effingham High School, and spent the day with Manar as part of the Senate’s page-for-a-day program.

FFASPRINGFIELD – When the governor proposed his budget for next year, he relied heavily on cuts to help balance it out. Agriculture education programs were one of the many programs that would have their funding eliminated under his spending proposal.

“The governor has repeatedly recognized Illinois’ proficiency in agriculture, and said that we need to find ways to expand it,” State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) said. “Taking resources away from students and instructors who want to grow that economy just for small, short-term savings is pretty careless.”

AVR durbinSPRINGFIELD –State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) recently introduced a plan that would streamline the voter registration process in Illinois. On Friday, he joined numerous state lawmakers, advocacy groups and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin to call for support of the proposal.

“Automatic voter registration is a completely bipartisan issue in my mind. It would replace our costly, inefficient and outdated system that’s currently in place.” Manar said. “We should not be content with only having a small fraction of eligible Illinoisans voting, we should strive for 100 percent.”
