Manar swearing inRSPRINGFIELD – Recently elected state lawmakers took their oaths of office during inauguration ceremonies in Springfield this month. State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) returned to the Illinois Senate after serving his first two-year term.

“I’m excited. We accomplished a lot over the last two years but there’s still so much more work to be done,” Manar said.

Manar plans to reintroduce a proposal reforming Illinois’ outdated school funding system—an update of the legislation that passed the Senate last year.

He is committed to securing money for area road projects to create local construction jobs and improve safety.

Manar was recently appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate’s Executive Appointments Committee that is responsible for approving Gov. Rauner’s appointments. Manar will also serve on the Agriculture, Education, Higher Education, Labor and both of the Appropriations Committees

Manar looks forward to having good working relationships with his Republican colleges and Rauner.

“This will be an interesting time in Illinois government, and I look forward to finding creative, bipartisan solutions,” Manar said.
