IACAA Vince Demuzio awardSPRINGFIELD—The Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies presented Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) the 2015 Vince Demuzio Legislator of the Year Award for his work in the Senate addressing rural poverty.

“This is truly an honor and I’m incredibly humbled. Vince was a mentor and the reason I went into public service. I hope I can live up to his example,” Manar said.

Manar was given the award after speaking to IACAA members during the organization’s annual conference Monday. He was nominated by the Illinois Valley Economic Development Corp., which serves Calhoun, Greene, Jersey and Macoupin counties.

“We chose to recognize Senator Manar with this award because he is fighting for education, equity for jobs and equity for services. He has stood up for Illinois' working poor, and he has stood up for individuals who desperately need a hand to climb out of poverty into the middle class,” said Dalitso Sulamoyo IACAA President and CEO

The IACAA is made up of community organizations like IVEDC that provide housing aid, job training, community care, heating assistance and other anti-poverty programs. Vince Demuzio was one of the founders of the statewide organization and the award is given to honor one lawmaker every year who serves the interest of low-income citizens of Illinois.
