SSCI TourSPRINGFIELD – State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) visited the Springfield care center of Senior Services of Central Illinois on Tuesday. During the tour, Manar met with seniors, staff and members of the SSCI board.

“Senior Services of Central Illinois serves a unique role in the community. It helps seniors by responding to their needs and enriching their lives. The state’s budget impasse is hurting providers like this the most,” Manar said

Senior Services of Central Illinois supports and provides seniors with non-medical services to promote independent living and enrich quality of life. Its programs assist seniors with transportation, nutrition and care. SSCI also investigates and protects against neglect and abuse of seniors, including financial abuse.

The state budget crisis has required SSCI to cut services and staff pay. The organization’s daily meal program that provides Sangamon county seniors with 155,000 meals per year is similarly coping with cutbacks.

“SSCI has worked diligently to find savings and increase private support, but the governor and General Assembly need to set aside politics and find a solution to keep organizations like SSCI open and serving the community,” Manar said.
