SPRINGFIELD—State Senator Andy Manar’s (D-Bunker Hill) initiative to streamline the voter registration process was among the topics that President Barack Obama highlighted during his remarks to the General Assembly on Wednesday. Watch the video below for President Obama’s remarks on the proposal.

Senate Bill 2134 would allow citizens who receive a new or updated drivers license or state identification card to be automatically registered to vote by the Secretary of State’s office. Their information would then be transmitted to their local election authority. Those who wish to remain unregistered can inform the Secretary of State’s office and they will not be registered.
