081913 js 0104WSPRINGFIELD – The Senate Education Funding Advisory Committee (EFAC) will meet Wednesday to hear testimony from Jeffrey Wulfson, Deputy Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and Mike Griffin, Senior Policy Analyst, Education Commission of the States – both have been involved with school finance reform proposals in other states.

Griffin will provide a report on Colorado’s recent proposal to redesign its school-funding system. As is the goal with State Senator Andy Manar’s committee, lawmakers in Colorado passed reforms to make school funding more equitable and targeted investments in essential areas such as preschool, full-day kindergarten and teachers.

The committee’s hearing will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora.

Manar led the effort in the spring legislative session to create the Senate Education Funding Advisory Committee (SR0431). The committee is tasked with reviewing the current public education funding distribution system and submitting recommendations for improvement and increased equity to the full General Assembly by Feb. 1, 2014.
